After spending the last six weeks with my daughter and youngest granddaughter, I didn’t want them to leave. As empty nesters, my wife and I have missed the sounds of young life running through the house. I understand my son-in-law’s desires to see his family; that is why we have face time. That sounds selfish, but that is what grandparents are for. Even as I write, the car is being packed, bringing home the reality of my situation. I know they have to go, but what about the grandparents? Can you look at that little face and said,”Go home?’
What next? Where do we go from here? I do have my writing, but that is not the same. Maybe a vacation, but then we have to look at other people enjoy their grandchildren. I love my wife. We get to spend time together that we never had when our children were young. But seeing my granddaughter stirred up something. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t have the energy to run around all day with a 2-year-old. But with professional help, it could work out.
